Kansas Riverkings Museum Exhibition
Guided Walking Tour and Coffee Discussions
Beginning in Spring 2018 the Kansas Riverkings Museum exhibition will provide guided walking tours to the public. Education director, Barbara Higgins-Dover will lead the group on a journey into the past when 19th century rivermen worked the waters and sold what they caught to a hungry community.
We’ll begin our journey either in front of Levee Café or at the Springhill Suites hotel lobby on the riverfront. From there we’ll head out on a four stop walk across the Kansas River bridge and back. Along the way you’ll hear about:
- The earliest Riverkings
- Where they built their fishing cabins
- Equipment and techniques
- How they marketed what they caught.
- You’ll also learn about lives lost, lives saved, and the great floods!
