County Fair Swim Club

Have you ever heard of the County Fair Swim Club? What is it? Where is it?

The County Fair Swim Club is a non-profit, private neighborhood pool at 2119 Maple Lane, here in Lawrence. That’s south of 19th, east of Haskell and west of Harper, at Maple Lane and Clare Rd, near Kennedy School. Being south of 15th, the County Fair Swim Club isn’t in East Lawrence proper, but they’re good neighbors just bursting with Eastside Pride and community spirit.

The pool was donated to the neighborhood in the 1960s and has been maintained and facilitated by parents and volunteers ever since. Only charging $2 per person for all day swim, and often permitting free admittance to any child in need, the pool is funded almost entirely by donations.

The County Fair Swim Club features a baby pool and a large pool grading from 3 to 9 feet, with a diving board. The pool is open from 1pm to 8pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and lifeguards are on duty all day.

Perhaps you and yours will want to check out the County Fair Swim Club pool this summer. In the meantime, consider supporting some of their fundraising efforts.
